CES 2005 - page 4
by Dave and Carol Clark

Jim White of Aesthetix. While Jim is quite reserved, he gets it.

Audiophiule Systems showed in several rooms, this one featured the dCS Verdi La Scala CD/SACD upsampling transport, Elgar Dac, Verona Master clock, with Nagra MPA Power amp and Verity Parsifal speakers. They had too many rooms to deal with and in most instances pretty much ignored us... and gee we were staying in the same wing. Oh well, AS is a big time company who has many products to distribute and their time is better spent working with dealers and such.

The Solid Tech Rack of Silence.

Walker Audio room featuring the Proscenium Gold Reference turntable and Talon FireHawk Speakers. Now this was something to experience. Fun people who REALLY get it.

Lloyd Walker doing the LP shuffle. A true gentlemen.

The Viva Aurora amp in the Walker Audio room.

The Viva Linea preamplifier.

Bel Canto Pre2 preamplifier, PL1A universal disc player, and Evo 2 monoblock amplifiers.

Jurgen Scheuring of Ascendo loudspeakers.

Ascendo System M-S speakers ($36,000). REALLY cool stuff here. Nice sound too!

Firebird Sounds Freenix high-end wireless digital amplifiers and speaker stands. Now for something really different. Look ma, no wires!

Overkill Audio Ovation speakers with active crossover always sounding good. Showed with Crystal Cable. Nice people too.

WorldPower Power Wing hiding behind the fauna in Overkill room.

The Second Rethm speakers ($7500), Jacob George in the background (retail $7500). These have been improved and sounded much better in terms of bass output and dynamics. A richer fuller sound without loosing what the single-driver can do.

Art Audio PX25 amplifier and Gill Audio electronics (the Elise DAC and Alana preamplifier) in the Rethm room. Art Audio was in several rooms and they all sounded very good.

The Fifth Rethm. Smaller and bookshelf capable. Smaller sounding than the Seconds, but considerably less expensive too.

Art Audio Carissa amplifier.

Herron Audio room featuring ESP-1 prototype speakers, and the M1 Mono power amplifiers (retail $5995 per pair). Always good sound. Always analog only. Keith gets it.

Herron Audio VTSP-2 tube preamp (retail $4995), HL-1 preamplifier (retail $3495), VTPH-1 tube Phono stage (retail $3250). and the VPI TNT turntable (retail $10,000).
